Change a Bulb

Greenfield’s 10% Challenge urges every household to install compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs), which use roughly a quarter of the electricity used by incandescent bulbs to generate the same amount of light.
In recent years, the cost of CFLs has come down considerably – some CFLs cost as little as 79 cents – and the quality of the light has also improved. Because the bulbs contain a small amount of mercury, they should be disposed of safely. They are accepted for disposal at no cost at the Greenfield Transfer Station.
Electricity production is a major source of CO2, producing nearly 40 percent of the U.S.’s total, so switching to more energy efficient bulbs is a simple way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. If every household in Greenfield were to switch five ordinary incandescent bulbs to CFLs, it is estimated that this would prevent nearly 8 million pounds of CO2 emissions each year.

Question: Can I use a CFL bulb in any regular bulb fixture?
Answer: Yes! A CFL works in any fixture that an incandescent bulb works. For 3-way or dimmable fixtures you need to purchase a CFL designed specifically for these fixtures. CFLs are also available in globe, candelabra, floodlight, and other specialty bulb styles.
Where can I purchase CFL bulbs?
In Greenfield , Aubuchon Hardware has several different wattages of spiral CFL bulbs for regular and 3-way lighting fixtures. The Maxlite bulbs are only 79 cents. Other vendors in the area include Home Depot, Stop and Shop, CVS, Walgreens and Big Y.
A more extensive selection of bulbs and other energy efficiency products can be found on the web at the Energy Federation Incorporated Website.
